PGS is the pre-procedure test that’s done to diagnose any abnormalities in the embryo. If you are a candidate for IVF or any other fertility treatment then undergoing one of these important tests that diagnose for any abnormalities in the embryo before or sometimes after implantation is necessary.

PGS is prescribed and undertaken by those who have chances for carrying embryo with abnormal number of chromosomes. Couples who have experienced more number of miscarriages before the fertility treatment prescribed such tests like PGS.

Pre-implantation Genetic Screening is a technique used for scanning any specific abnormalities like checking for abnormal number of chromosomes and rectifying the same. PGS when prescribed but not performed may invite a risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, blue baby or birth of babies with abnormalities.

Patients can avoid any such risks after Pre-implantation Genetic Screening results are looked for and treated accordingly.

  • Cells will be removed from the embryo after which the embryo will be frozen again
  • The cells will be analysed by embryologists and the doctor to determine the number of chromosomes present.
  • Doctors then choose the eggs of good quality for transferring it into the uterus. Any good quality embryo that are left can be frozen for the patient’s further use for ensuring another conception or ensuring more fertility treatment cycles only when needed.
